Long Beach Island is one of my favorite places to visit all year round. Once I cross over the Causeway and the bridge onto the island, I am in a slice of peaceful paradise, a great escape from the hectic pace of daily life in New Jersey. Once I pull in the driveway of the house, my car often stays there until it’s time to leave. I enjoy that you can walk to so many things. I love the small town feel of the island with its lack of big name chains. You know when you support one of the businesses, you are truly putting money into someone’s pocket, and not adding to some CEO’s balance sheet. I love the variety of shops and following them on social media where you can see that each and every item is chosen with purpose by a dedicated shop owner. I love joining the runners, walkers and cyclists on Ocean Blvd. so that I can earn my calories to enjoy the variety of food/restaurants available on the island, whether dining inside a restaurant or eating takeout on the house deck. And then, of course, there’s dessert, from hot custom donuts to cold homemade ice cream. Over the years I’ve climbed Ol’ Barney and look forward to tackling it again one day, as well as have gone parasailing. I’ve enjoyed days at the waterpark and at Fantasy Island with my nieces and nephews and days on the beach or on a boat, docked at a sandbar in the bay. With all this, there’s still so much on the island that I haven’t seen or done and I look forward to experiencing more in the years to come. – Antoinette Marrero
